SO3-Black And White

"Interesting movie"

date: June 16, 2008

You surprised me by the way you did this. I never would have thought of a movie having such creativity. That was a pretty good flash movie.

Storyline-Normally, these stick movies are just mindless killing. Yours isn't any different, but it was excellent. Your creativity on it is what makes this movie stand out above the rest.

Violence-You never see blood, or brutal punches, but you still know what is happening so I'd say you did well on this category.

Audio-If this flash movie had no sound, it would be very hard to understand what was going on. But, since it does, it really made the movie easy to follow.

Theme-This movie did have a moral to itself. I'm guessing it's on the lines of, what goes around, comes around. And it was brilliant.

animation-I guess you wanted it to be simple, since it would be better regarding the black and white storyline.

Overall, a great movie with a great twist, 9/10

High Ball

"not bad"

submission: High Ball
date: June 7, 2008

The ball's physics are well made, which must have took a lot of coding to do, so congrats on making such a great game :)

Gameplay-It's very interactive, and just all-round fun to play for a while.
the flash game is easy to learn because all you do is click the ball, which is simple and fun to play. unfortunately, I hate to agree with other reviewers here, but it does get a little repetitive every now and then, but you can resolve this just by adding new features, like an option to change the high ball's color, or change it into a familiar object like the newgrounds tank.

Audio-While there's no real song track present on this game, it does have a couple of sound effects which prevent it from being one of those "silent games" which are dull and boring. You break that mold, so I'm glad you were able to come out with such a great game! I'm really serious, there aren't any bug in your game which is a major plus, especially since you added what I think is a mute button.

violence-As with most other flash games recently, I guess violence is no longer a factor..... I should change it to something more appropriate, like a humor category. Bottom line, your flash game contains no violence.

Summary:this Flash game, titled, "High Ball" is fun for a short period of time. The gaming engine is pretty well made and there aren't any major bugs with the game. Overall 6/10 ok score. You can improve by adding more choices to customize the "high Ball" like different colors, shapes, and logos.

The Yoshi Show 2

"Lol, I loved it!"

submission: The Yoshi Show 2
date: June 7, 2008

I never even knew there was a first Yoshi show to begin with! After I'm done reviewing this flash movie, I'll go stop by and watch it over there :P

Anyway, Your flash movie, the yoshi show 2, is just so random that it is funny.
There were a couple of parts that made me laugh my butt off. Like that scene with link when he drops his stuff and it just goes, "You found a Ruler!"
That is just pure genuine parody comedy! I love parody flash movies, something about them is just so funny that it puts everything else to shame. You were right, the sound is a titch off, but it doesn't really ruin the movie itself. I can tell you put in loads of hard work into this flash, so I'm glad it scored high on the portal.

Originality-Your funny jokes were both original and gut busting, which is why I think this is one of the most original flash movie parodies out there on newgrounds.com right now. How did you find the inspiration for such great comedy scenes? Whatever made you think of it, I'm glad it happened or this would be a very, very, very dull flash movie to review, lol.

Storyline-Being a group of parodies, I really didn't expect to see any kind of storyline what so ever in the flash movie, so I wasn't at all disappointed in the flash, or you. All in all, it might not have a storyline, but the humor makes up for it, big time. Who knows, maybe there is a storyline but I fail to see it. You'll tell me if there is one or not, right? Don't just leave me hangin :'(

Audio-Well, it was off by a little bit, but it wasn't anything too flash life threatening. The voices were really done well, up to the part where my speakers some how shut off. I found out it was a loose wire, but not before losing bits of precious parody scenes from this flash movie.

Graphics-Visually, you added a lot of stunning vivid coloring to your characters, which I am not entirely used to. But, the flash was well animated, and I can't find a single "choppy" scene in your flash movie. Great job!

Summary:It was a great parody, using famous characters and pitting them in real life situations, which shows some of their disadvantages to being the heroes that they are.

Overall 9/10

Wow o.o! Thanks for such a wonderful review ^^!! You really helped lighten my mood! I am honored to know someone sees it so highly and well done! Oh, no storyline btw XD; Its just me and my friends, some of the parodies were inspired by real events that go on with me and my friends XD Thats why some jokes may have not made sense. Some of it is actually to honor them, cause they've helped me so much. And of course my boyfriend (Rukia look-a-like, blacked haired one in 2nd caramelldansen scene) I couldn't have done it with out them to inspire me ^_^ So yes, to answer your last question, you helped A LOT 8D!

Death Eagle: Remake

"Not bad, not bad at all."

date: June 6, 2008

Hey Phantox, nice to see you going back and re-making your old flash movies again!
I still remember the first time I saw the old Death Eagle series. I'm not going to lie, and, just like you, I thought it needed work too. In this remake, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that you have added more detail to your characters, giving them a better look, even when dead. I'm not sure what made you decide that you wanted to put off your hentai galleries to do this, but I'm glad you did. Oh, by the way, are you going to stop with those galleries down the road? Don't you think it degrades your reputation as a flash artist, animator, and actionscriptor? Huh, oh well, I guess It's just wishful thinking, right?

Anyway, enough idle chit-chat, I better get along with the review. I'm still working on my review format, but so far I have originality, which is basically saying how original your flash movie is, audio, which is a summary of all the sounds that you put in your flash, and how well they work together. I also have Graphics, or how well drawn your flash was, and last, storyline, which just means that if your flash follows a story, how well made it is and if it has any theme, or moral of the story. Take Krinkel's early flash movies into example, he put a moral at the end of each movie up to the 3rd I believe it was. so....

Originality-Since your flash is a remake of your old flash movie, there isn't much I can put down on this category, other than the determination to strive for a all-round better flash movie than it's retarded cousin prequel :P

Audio-Not bad gunshot sounds and that background music isn't bad either. I think you created a great flash by knowing how to use those audio flies well.

Graphics-Even though the characters are well drawn, the movie's animation is still a little off and stiff. Animation is one of the hardest atrocities the artist must overcome next to detailed actionscript, another pain.

Storyline-Once again, since it's a remake of the old flash of yours I don't think this category applies to this either.

Summary: even though you made your flash movie a lot more artistically pleasant, you still need to work on animation a little bit more to truly get 100%
out of the flash program you are using.

9/10

Author's Response:

I decided to remake the episodes so I can advance in my skills in flash. I will still be working on hentai submissions but not as much as I used to. I don't think it will lower my reputation because they won't be just pictures; they will have minigames in the flash.

Your categories helped me. Thanks for that. I'm still pretty bad at animating. Especially with legs and all that sort of stuff.

Anyways, thanks I'll take your advice and use it for the next movie =)

Liveswif tutorial basic

"Not too bad"

date: June 6, 2008

Hey, why didn't you tell me that you came out with this?
I would have supported you, and not the way you did when you wrote the review for mine... Anyway, the preloader works really well for this tutorial, the song can get a little annoying at times which I'm glad I found the mute button for. also, I noticed the track started overlapping when I accidentally hit play while it was playing. I'm sure liveswif has a code to fix it so that it stops when pressed and plays when released so there would be no overlapping. anyway, I'm glad you made a basic tutorial for liveswif to help out people with it, but I noticed you didn't give them any help with the actionscript, and I remember when I used to use that program that that was the biggest issue for me.
Oh well, on with the review.

Gameplay-This is more like how well the tutorial is built, does it have all the necessary guide buttons, helpful tips and visual tools ect.
Your mute and play buttons disappear as soon as the viewer goes to click on a link. also, you might want to put you movie clip-I mean sprite for the mouse on the top layer so it wont be overlapped by the buttons, giving the user a frustrating moment. If you could fix the directory buttons so they are easy to find it would also be more helpful. I hope I helped.

Audio- Like I said before, once you can fix the actionscripting to put the buttons on all layers and fix the repeating bug in your tutorial, it should help the user out even more.

Violence-It does not really apply to this specific flash tutorial...

Helpful- This relates as to how helpful your tutorial is. Despite a couple of bugs, the tutorial does help out with the user getting to know their tools.
But overall, it is only helpful for people trying out liveswif, but I had a feeling that was what it was intended to do.

Summary- Great job, elbarto66, I might have to put up a tutorial afterall, because you inspired me to :3

Storytime With Pram

"It was very entertaining."

date: June 6, 2008

What was that, clay? what ever it was, you uploaded it really well-I don't remember ever viewing anything composed of clay in such a high definition! Which program did you use to create such a flash movie? It is a very good flash, so I guess I should point out some of the highlights that I thought were amusing.

Storyline-Basically, this category is for how well your story was made, if there is any. You set out a character in the beginning called "this guy" and gave him a few characteristics-He hated every thing, he was abusive towards animals including snails, cats and dogs, and he was all-round evil. It continues to where he falls in love with a hag who herself abuses him and sets him straight. You didn't do too bad in this category, so good job!

Originality-it is pretty original, but it does remind me of Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew, only this time, the shrew, is "this Guy." Even with all of this, I remember you showing this also on youtube...Oh well, great work nonetheless.

graphics-The clay came out so well in the video that it even puts the famous knox to shame(sorry to say). the characters were very detailed and had great highlights to themselves throughout the flash movie.

Violence-Though there was no blood, the dog punching kinda discouraged me from giving you a perfect ten for your hard work and the nature of "this Guy." What can I say, I'm a dog person. But, it also had, beatings over the head with a frying pan, snail squashing, and even cat kicking. Sorry, man, but no can do.

Theme- I have to say, like all Movies, there is usually a moral, or theme to their work, and this flash movie is no exception. A guy abuses animals and gets what is coming when he marries "the Hag." Overall, great job.

Summary: A man called, "this guy," in the flash movie with a bad temper, takes
it out on all the creatures near him, but his rampage stops when he falls in love with this beautiful woman who turns out to be just a "hag" and now he is afraid to do anything. Overall, a solid storyline with astonishing graphics and audio.

Author's Response:

Wow, what a thorough review!

Now to answer your questions: The animation was done in Stopmotion Pro 6 Standard Definition at D1 (720x480) resolution at 15 frames per second and down-resolved to 320x240 @ 15fps using a free .avi Xvid-to-.swf converter. (Sorry, I'm not willing to spend $700.00 just to post videos on Newgrounds).

On the down side, the film does not have a preloader, and it just keeps repeating itself, which I had no control over. Ah well, it looks better than it does on a couple other sites I posted it at.

The key to getting the lighting to stay constant was wearing all black the entire month I animated it, shooting in a windowless basement room so that sunlight could not interfere, and stepping completely out of the way every frame so that the lighting wouldn't get altered by my shadow. I also made sure to leave the room lights off because they would cast the camera's shadow onto the glass, destroying the illusion. I have never read Taming of the Shrew, but I will have to go look it up now!

As far as violence, I just did that for shock value. I love animals and have four cats. In my lifetime I've had two dogs. Dogs are great, but they bark and crap all over the yard (at least mine did). I prefer cats, even though they aren't loyal.

Fun fact: if the film hadn't taken on the name I eventually gave it, it would have been called "Come-Uppance". I like the concept of atonement and Newton's theory that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Thanks for the comparison to Knox, but he is a far better storyteller than I. It was an honor to make the music for Klay World: Off The Table, and I hope to work with him again. Regardless, I don't have anything bad to say about his films, other than I liked his early stuff the most because it was shot with a webcam and had a kind of cinematic look to it. I don't even look for that anymore, though. Story is KING!

Epsilon

"Great Cinematics"

submission: Epsilon
date: June 6, 2008

First of all, I have to say, I'm a sucker for showoff entries and superior cinematic stage effects. This game has a matrix feel to it, and I can imagine the huge action script that had to be put into this to get this result. It is far more sophisticated than any other game I've seen, except one. Portal:Flash Edition. But that matches this one. It really isn't that different from Portal-same physics are used with a couple of slight differences. There have been two portals incorporated within both games and they have same goals-move on to the next level and beat it.

But, what does separate this game from Portal, is that you can have control over
time, which has never been done to as far as I know in flash before. You can pause, and recall back time with this flash, kind of like in Prince of Persia.

Your action scripting skills are very complex. The thought that this game hinted a sequel has me anticipating its release. Great job!

Gameplay-Ghost rooms, freezing time, re-calling time are concepts alien to flash gaming. But this Flash game, Epsilon, bonds both together to make a brilliantly made flash that deserves front page and the rank among the top 50.

Originality- Even though it has a vague recollection to Portal, it still brought very new concepts to Flash, which means an assload of actionscripting and coding, not to mention experimenting with different techniques, resulting in a new game to become a legend within itself. You, my friend are a genius!

Audio-This goes with the cinematic experiences that I was describing earlier. All the sound effects and tracks that give it an ambient mood with it. You put a great game here with sounds to amplify its impression to give the player a great sense of feeling. All in all, it is pretty mystifying, especially in the main menu.

Violence-It isn't so much as violence as to what the ball symbolizes and gives the player. This flash game doesn't really qualify for crude violence, but it does for the suspense and thriller category. And that, is worth something.

Summary: an intense and sometimes, frustrating game that will have the player begging for more. Luckily, with hints of a sequel, this game might turn into a huge series depending on how many more games will follow it.

Private George

"Pretty fun"

submission: Private George
date: June 6, 2008

You did well packing in adventurous terrain fun filled with bombs, boulders, and even flying saucers. What I really enjoyed was the comedy you attached with "private George." Instead of a well-trained, muscle man of the military to control, we get Private George, obviously a man that has passed his prime.

Gameplay-Controlling Private George never gets old, and, with a simple tutorial and controls, this flash game is easy to play and enjoy. And, for the file size, a great attribute to the newgrounds community. I commend you on this game.

Audio-The "GO, GO GO GO!" in the beginning is pretty funny, but it did get a little repetitive when you finished each scene and here it over and over again. But, Private George's grunts never get tiring and express his character's abilities, which is why I think it makes up for the repetitive start. Good job on you audio, you really came through on this category.

Graphics-You gave George a nice, cartoony look that fits his character. His wrinkled face and sea blue eyes give him a good look. you even added a waiting mc to him. everything is detailed, from the tiny black bombs on ropes and rocky boulders to the dazzling palm trees and sci-fi saucers.

Violence- I'm glad you kept it just at like a little bit of violence with poor old Private George that even kids can enjoy. Him falling through the hole is a little off, due to his surprised look-You know, the one where his eyes glow red and mouth drops like his helmet. That one. All in all, I have to say you did well in this category, so well, that I have to say you have made a lot of progress with flash lately. I know that it is hard making games, and fun, entertaining ones are hard to come by, but this flash game by you, succeeded in making a good impression.

Summary: "Private George" is an entertaining, fun game complete with many hilarious sounds, theme songs, boulders, bombs, and even flying saucers for the geek in you. It has some repetitive parts though, but this is only a minor factor, nothing that would really bring the game down.

Swish BBall

"Entertaining!"

submission: Swish BBall
date: June 5, 2008

At first, I thought you had to wait for the Basket ball come to a complete stop before shooting again. I'm glad I found out that that wasn't the case. You might want to add on a tutorial so people can better understand how this game works. Nevermind, lol, I found it on the bottom of your game. I feel so embarrassed.

Anyway, it is a simple arcade game that is fun to play over and over, trying to get
the highscore which is impossible, being 1600 or something around that.

Originality-I've seen a couple games like this and some that are basically the same objective and goal. Sorry to point this out, but this one game doesn't have anything that really just allows it to stand out among the rest.

Gameplay-A simple engine and actionscript goes a long way for this game. The highscore board doesn't immediately add you on, but thats just minor.
Overall, it's a pretty entertaining, competitive game.

Audio-Every sound you put in the game was well worth it. The swish sounds, basket ball sounds, and even the rim sounds great. it gives you a feel that you're actually playing Basketball.

Graphics-Well, the graphics are not entirely made in flash so this one is hard to rate. the basket ball and hoop are both made with flash, but almost everything else isn't. I would have to say, that you probably want to experiment with backgrounds so you can eventually create one that is better than the one you have now.

Violence-There isn't really any violence in this game, unless the basket ball magically flies out and hits the crowd, but I didn't expect a basket ball flash game to have any violence in it anyway.

Summary: Though there are a couple of minor flaws with the game, it still is entertaining to play and to score high upon. The only major problem with it is its lack of ability to stand out among previous Flash game submissions similar to it.
Aside from that, there only was slight work done in flash, and it seems the main focus for the game was the actionscripting, which, for the most part, is flawless.
All in all, I would recommend people to try this game and see what they think for
themselves so they can better understand it.
